Join your colleagues in professional development, academic conversations and networking with the best in Idaho. Designed for educators, administrators, and instructional coaches, the IABE conference will explore effective instructional approaches, assessment techniques, and differentiated strategies to enhance the literacy development of Multilingual Learners.

THURSDAY: A special pre-conference event is planned Thursday evening with speakers, appetizers and networking. Luigi Novoa will start off the evening with a Spanish immersion experience modeling content strategies ideal for ML newcomers. Myrna Muñoz, nationally recognized dual language trainer is the evening’s main event will share with us The Biliteracy Promise.

FRIDAY: Join us for an engaging and insightful keynote with Valentina González, an internationally recognized educational consultant, author, and creator. Valentina will share her expertise, valuable insights, and practical strategies for supporting English learners in the areas of reading and writing.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS: Dive deeper into specific strategies which target the language of math, science, social studies and English language arts for our beginning and intermediate English Learners. Explore various program models including dual immersion, co-teaching, sheltered instruction and paraprofessional supported classes. Strategies for long-term secondary and elementary multilingual learners who struggle with content literacy is also highlighted. Improve instruction through a focus on WIDA, writing content and language success criteria and having a taste of Go-to-Strategies.

  • Keynote Speakers’ Breakout Sessions: Myrna Muñoz will lead in-depth sessions for dual language teachers & administrators. Valentina González will lead in hands-on activities and practical tools that can be immediately implemented in the classroom. Both Myrna and Valentina will address common challenges faced by educators when teaching English learners, and offer innovative approaches to address these challenges.

CO-TEACHING INSTITUTE: Attendees also have the opportunity to attend a Co-Teaching Institute. The institute is a full-day, concurrent session and will take place during Friday’s breakout sessions. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the why behind co-teaching, how to get started, the models, planning, and challenges. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged for this session.
